Our Story
What began over a century ago as a neighborhood celebration has evolved into a thriving cultural force in Omaha. For 105 years, the annual Cinco de Mayo Omaha festival has honored Mexican heritage, gathering generations to celebrate community, family, and tradition. Over time, we recognized that our efforts went beyond a single event—what we truly needed was a dedicated space to empower, preserve, and grow Latino culture year-round.
That vision took shape as Casa de la Cultura. Today, our story is one of continuous growth and connection: blending tourism, historic preservation, youth development, and vibrant cultural events to strengthen the fabric of South Omaha. We proudly carry on the legacy of Cinco de Mayo Omaha, weaving its spirit of celebration into everything we do.
From earning the Henry Fonda Tourism Award to expanding our programs for future leaders, we strive to create a city where everyone feels seen, valued, and inspired to collaborate. Casa de la Cultura is more than an organization—it’s a testament to the power of tradition, progress, and unity, all under one welcoming roof.
